The Team

Show business is in Wayne’s blood. Being “born in a trunk”, he is a fourth generation performer. Wayne’s introduction to professional musical theatre was at the age of 11 when he was castedas a tap dancing sailor in Gypsy. He then went onto to co-star and play such roles as Tom Thumb in Barnum, Baby John & Arab in West Side Story, Andrew inSeven Little Australians, Waxy Collins in Jonah Jones(STC), Benny Southstreet & Nathan Detroit in Guys & Dolls, Mike in A Chorus Line, Fogerty in Chicago and Hot Blades Harry in Urinetown(MTC). Wayne is most acclaimed for his starring role as Cosmo Brown in the Australasian Tour of Singin’ in the Rain, and his show-stopping slapstick running up the wall routine Make ’em Laugh. Wayne also starred as Max Bialystock inThe Producers,the Modern Major General in The Pirates of Penzance, The Vaudevillian inSmoke & Mirrors and  Wilbur Turnblad in Hairspray The Big Fat Arena Spectacular.He most recently starred in Opera Australia’s and GFO’s Touring production of Anything Goesas Moonface Martin.

Wayne has been nominated and is the recipient for numerous Helpmann,Green Room and Mo Awards, such as “Male Musical Theatre Performer of the Year”, “ Best Lead Actor In a Musical “ and the “ Peter Allen Variety Entertainer of the Year.”Hehas conceived and starred in the Australian musical comedy Jive Junkys, which toured extensively and received the coveted Pick of the Fringe Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. 

Wayne’s love of Cabaret has lead him to, create, starand produce with his wife Katie such shows as Candy Man - a celebration of the ultimate Song & Dance Man, Sammy Davis Jnr. And The Kermond 3 Gen Variety Show,alongside his Dad and son Zan at the Adelaide Cabaret Festiva,l where it receiving five star reviews. He most recently conceived and produced Spiegel’esquein the SpiegelZelt tent touring Australia, playing the role of the cheeky Emcee“Vayne”.   

In the last 3 years, Wayne has also directed, with his wife Katie choreographing,productions of Evita, Mary Poppins,Wickedand We Will Rock  You.

Katie is a dance director, choreographer, performer and stand-up comedian. She has performed in many Australian musicals, such as Westside Story, La Cage Aux Folles, Evita, Sugar Babies, Camelot, Guys & Dolls, Grease, Jerry’s Girls, Chicago, Singin’ in the Rain and most recently Follies. 
After marriage and childbirth, the natural progression was stand-up comedy, creating her own “one-woman show” that featured at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Sydney Comedy Store. Realising that the performing side was only half the story, she started choreographing and producing more (shows that is, not babies) corporate functions and special events, as well as two national tours, and a successful season at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival of major productions such as Jive Junkys. 
Her choreographic credits include Annie, Superman the Musical, The Smurfs Live On Stage (world tour),Candy Man and Spiegelesque. She has also choreographed the children’s TV series Lah Lah’s Adventures. Katie has also received a coveted Pick of the Fringe Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She shares the journey with her husband, the multi awarding winning musical theatre star Wayne Scott Kermond. Oh - and their greatest success to date is their son Alexander (Zan) Kermond, who is making a name for himself as one of the best up and coming cabaret performers, with his show The Vaudevillians, play.

Alexander “Zan” Kermond - is a fifth generation Performer. 

Zan has been dancing since he learned to walk and as a child performed in many productions across theatre and television. At age 8 he played the role of youngCosmo Brown in the award wining dancer/choreographer David Atkins smash hit musical Singin’ In The Rain across Australia and in Asia. 

A talented and dedicated tap dancer, Zan’s childhood dream of becoming a Tap Dog came to life in 2010 when he was offered a spot in the hotly contested Dein Perry’s Tap Dogs that culminated in a performance at the Daly M Awards and the privilege of performing at Virgin Blue Airlines 10th Birthday celebrations for entrepreneur Richard Branson. 

In 2011, Zan commenced a 2 year full time Performing Arts Diploma at Sydney’s prestigious ED5 International Performing Arts School and appeared in the worldwide blockbuster feature film, Happy Feet 2 (Director George Miller). Before the completion of his studies at ED5, Zan received the opportunity of a lifetime, to play one of the seven brothers in the feel good hit musical Hot Shoe Shuffle and to once again perform with the legendary David Atkins. 

After a successful season of Hot Shoe Shuffle, Zan Headed to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival under the direction of Wayne Harrison AM alongside his Father and Grandpa where they performed a one of a kind cabaret show having 3 generations onstage together, they received rave reviews. The Kermonds continued onto cruising for the Royal Caribean on their Bravo cruise of the performing arts. Here Zan had the opportunity to perform alongside such names as Elaine Paige, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Marina Prior to name a few. Zan was lucky enough to be recognised for his recent performances with The Kermond’s as he was nominated and won a Mo Award for Best Variety Production show of the year. 

More recently Zanhas produced and directed his own show called Les Vaudevilliens.
Which made its world premier at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe Festival. Here it has received multiple 5 star reviews, with the Adelaide Advertiser giving it 4 and a half stars, saying “Alexander kermond is the star, not only because he’s multi talented, but his ability to tell a story. His tribute to Charlie Chaplin sends goose bumps, in the best way”.

Matthew’s works include numerous theatre, musical, events, concerts, and fashion shows. His lighting design credits include: Big Fish & Songs for A New World (Hayes Theatre); Blonde Poison (Strange Duck Productions); The Sunset Limited (Ensemble Theatre); The Sneeze (Theatre Forward); The Herbal Bed (New Theatre); Checklist for an Armed Robber (Belvoir Theatre). Matthew’s musical design’s include Into the Woods, Witches of Eastwick, Rent and Sweeney Todd for AIM, Musical of Musicals The Musical for Triptych theatre, Associate Designer for Candyman, Witches and the SSO, Buddy Holly The Musical, Wicked and Assistant Designer on Billy Elliot   Matthew is a graduate of NIDA.

Jamie Castrisos is one of Sydney’s most in demand drummers. He holds a

BMus(Perf) in percussion and a DipMus(Jazz) both from the Sydney

Conservatorium. From 2004-2007 Jamie held the RAAF big band drumming

chair. The big band was widely known as one of the finest in Australia. The

band toured extensively in Australia and internationally.

Professionally, Jamie has played for: James Morrison, Emma Pask, Tina Arena,

Hayley Westenra, Lucy Durack, Anthony Callea, Doug Parkinson, Rob Mills,

Melinda Schneider, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Jazz Orchestra,

Jamie has also worked on professional theatre shows: The Book of Mormon,

Kinky Boots, Matilda, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Wicked, The Lion King,

Candy Man, Guys and Dolls, A Chorus Line, Legally Blonde, and The Addams

Family. He has also played for charity events such as: Light the Night, Into the

Woods, The Rob Guest Endowment, Out From Under. Jamie is also in high

demand as an educator and adjudicator, having taught at several schools,

workshops, state music camps and adjudicated school competitions and the

Australian Percussion Eisteddfod.

Mick Walton

Technical Consultant

Mick Walton has over 25 year's in the theatrical industry. His work has seen him construct complex rigging systems for theatre, entertainment venues and festivals. He is highly respected in the field of performer and special effects flying systems, and has a strong reputation for making performers feel safe. His skills have taken him throughout Australia, working with Queensland ballet, Gold Coast Arts Centre, Pilbeam Theatre Rockhampton, Mackay Entertainment Centre, Spiegelesque (Kermond Creative), Lunchbox theatrical productions and QPAC as a head mecahanist, rigger, flyer, production manager and stage manager. As a qualified rigger and dogger, with rope access, height safety, elevated work platform qualifications, mick has trained a large number of mechanists that now work throughout Australia in the industry. He is currently based in central queensland operating as a freelance mechanist/rigger with his business, mxrigging.
